Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell is a realistic fiction book set in 1986 and follows Eleanor and Park.  Eleanor is a new girl in town and she couldn’t stick out more. Park is the boy in the back of the bus who thinks he’s invisible. But not to Eleanor. The two bond over mixtapes and comics. Even with their mountain of problems, they fall in love, knowing it might not last. Yet they’re brave enough to try. I read this book for school and to be honest, I hated it. I tried so hard to enjoy it, but I just couldn’t. I hated the writing style and I hated the awkwardness of it. It had so much potential to be good but it didn’t try. The writing was horrible, there was no complexity in the words. It was straight up and shallow. The only thing it had going was the awareness of abusive households and the introduction of breaking of gender norms in the 80s.But that wasn’t strong enough to make it a theme. The characters had no chemistry and I couldn't connect with them. I would give it a 1/5.
