Dry by Neal Shusterman occurs in the near future when California has run low on water due to extreme drought. This book is an absolute masterpiece when it comes to depicting human behavior when no water is available. In this book, the main character, Alyssa, is forced to make many decisions and makes many acquaintances to increase their odds at survival better. She is accompanied by Garrett, Kelton, Jacqui, and Henry, who all aim to make it to Kelton’s survival bug-out in the woods, which has supplies to aid their survival.

Overall, Dry is an excellent book that provides many different aspects, that you would expect in a story. If you like adventure books with a slight dystopian twist, then this book is perfect for you. In my opinion, this book is an absolute must-read. I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved how all the characters are extremely diverse in their backgrounds and their behavior. This book ranks as one of the best books I have ever read simply because of its simplistic base story, yet with complex intricate details. The different obstacles that they all have to overcome are all very interesting to read. The specific short stories in the book with unknown characters are also really good, such as the news broadcasts, or the story of the old lady. This book covers a variety of characters and because it's told from different points of view, I can enjoy different mindsets and perspectives of the tap-out and the different obstacles that they face. Overall, I give this book a four out of five stars because it is really good at everything that it does, but it can get a little boring when they face obstacle after obstacle.
