Summary: The story starts with 15-year-old Christopher John Francis Boone, who discovers the body of Wellington, his neighbor Mrs. Shears’ dog, dead on their lawn. Christopher decides to investigate the context of the murder and uncover the culprit. Throughout his investigation, we learn more about Christopher’s life, personality, and defining characteristics. Although it is not explicitly stated, it is highly suggested he has a form of autism. These traits aid and hinder him in his investigation. He eventually uncovers the murderer and through the experience gains a sense of capability and independence.

Opinion: I found this book extremely compelling and thoughtfully written. Christopher as a narrator added an interesting element to an otherwise basic story. We come to understand his thought process and goals through his unique way of observing the world around him. Seeing the dramatic family story underneath the murder unfold also kept the book engaging and surprising. I recommend this book to those interested in mysteries, new perspectives, and an all-around exciting story.
