When Call comes home from the Magisterium for Summer Vacation he thought that it
would be a normal one with him, his dad, and Havoc. However, what he didn’t know was that his
dad might have been secretly trying to destroy him and Havoc. Call runs off after learning this
and returns back to the Magisterium. However, he learns that a powerful magical weapon that
can destroy chaos magic users called the Alkahest has been stolen, and the key suspect is his own
father, Alastair Hunt. Tamara, Aaron, Call, and Jasper go on a mission to try and stop his father
before even worse things occur. However, this journey leads to some uncomfortable truths to
come about and also leads to them meeting even more dangerous foes.

In my opinion, this book is a 5 out of 5 and is easily the best book of the series. This book
was amazing in every aspect. It is a fun read, has humorous moments, has happy and sad
moments and this book keeps you on the edge of your seat. This book makes me want to know
more about the characters and their role in the magical world and conflict. That’s a rare thing that
few books do to me. Holly Black and Cassandra Clare did an amazing job of creating a blend of
a dark story with moments that make you smile, which is a hard thing to do with middle-grade
books. The most compelling moment of this book was the journey the main characters went on
because we got to learn a lot more about their personalities, history and what they are really like
as people. This is an amazing part of the book because it helps you relate to the characters and
gets you more attached to them. I loved learning more about these characters because it gave
them more depth instead of being 1-dimensional, like most characters in fiction. I have no
negatives about this book, other than I wish it was longer because this book was AMAZING!!!

I would recommend this book to any fantasy lover because this book is just a fun read
and even if you haven’t read the first book you can read this one because everything is very well
explained and you can piece together what is going on at any given moment.
