Catching Fire is the sequel to The Hunger Games and is written by Suzanne Collins. Katniss and Peeta have survived the Hunger Games and arrive to District 12 safely. However, they must now participate in the Victory Tour and travel throughout the districts. While they do so, Katniss and Peeta start to sense a rebellion stirring within the uneasy district people of Panem. However, President Snow retaliates against this movement by adding a cruel twist to the 75th annual Hunger Games. Can Katniss Everdeen catch on fire, or will Snow and the Capitol manage to put the sparks out?

If you liked The Hunger Games, then you’ll love Catching Fire. Suzanne Collins manages to change the perspective of the series without losing the reader’s interest. In the first book, readers loved Katniss because of how vulnerable she was. She wasn’t special or respected, and this aspect of her character made her journey much more interesting. In Catching Fire, Katniss has an identity among Panem and has managed to stir a sense of defiance among the district people. However, Collins still manages to make Katniss vulnerable by adding a key twist to the plot of the story (a twist that I won’t spoil). Katniss’s relationships with Gale and Peeta has also changed, and these relationships add on to the engaging story that Collins has created. While all this is happening, President Snow manages to have an intimidating presence in the story, and Collins presents a twisted villain that readers won’t forget. The Hunger Games was hot with quality writing and potential, but this second book is where the series starts to burst into flames.
