The most compelling element of Can You Keep a Secret? is its ability to create a sense of suspense out of thin air. The book really holds together as a web of secrets, mysteries, and supernatural elements that kept me hooked from beginning to end. The discovery of the hidden diary and the unraveling of its secrets gave me an anxious experience not knowing what was going to happen next. Something that disappointed me with this book was the lack of emphasis on the plot twist at the end of the book. The plot twist was very unexpected and there wasn’t any information hinting towards it. However, the book emphasizes the importance of friendship and teamwork in overcoming obstacles. I really enjoyed the growth of the characters. Especially Emily and her sister’s bond growing. I would recommend Can You Keep a Secret? to fans of young adult fiction who enjoy fast-paced, suspenseful stories with elements of mystery and the supernatural. I would rate this book a four out of five.
