The Call of the Wild, by Jack London, is a children's story told from the point of view of a sled dog.

The readers get to experience Buck's (the sled dog) journey as he travels across North America.
Buck is stolen from his owners bedside to be sold to miners traveling across freezing Alaska. The
readers learn about the mistreatment Buck faces, his own rivalries with the other sled dogs, and his
search for his owner.

The Call of the Wild is one of my favorite books due to its simple language; morals regarding inner
strength, courage, and bravery; and the fact that Buck learns to understand human motivation and
greed of his kidnappers. Despite being a dog, Buck is extremely relatable. Even though there is
understandably little dialog, the story is intimate and will have readers invested in Buck's journey. I
appreciate the fact that London tackles large issues and generalizes them through the point of view
of a dog. As The Call of the Wild is a book for all ages, children are able to learn about these issues in
a way that will make an impression on them.
