The Book Thief is a historical fiction book by Markus Zusak. The book takes place in Germany during WWII and is narrated by Death. After the death of Liesel's brother and being separated from her mother, Liesel is taken in by a foster family just outside of Munich. Using a book she found in the snow, Liesel learns to read and becomes very close with her foster father, Hans. As the war progresses, Liesel's family hides a Jew in their basement, and Liesel will go to extreme lengths to defend him.

I really liked reading this book. I found it interesting that the book was told from the perspective of death. There were parts of the book that were clearly told from the perspective of death, parts that seemed to be told more from Liesel’s perspective, and parts that seemed to be a mix of both. I really liked that about the book. Each part of the book was told from the perspective that would give the reader the most insight into the characters. I also really liked that all of the characters seemed to have very strong characteristics and emotions, which helped the reader to understand the story better. I really liked this book, and I would definitely recommend it.
