Liesel Meminger’s life changes after her brother dies and she moves in with a foster family.
This book covers her adventures with her best friend, her struggles and a secret she had to
keep. From the point of view of the narrator Death, Liesel experiences Germany during World
War II and steals books to read thus becoming “The Book Thief”.

I love the genre of historical fiction and this book gave me a perspective that was different than
some others I had read. Many World War II books don’t share the perspective of German
families, but The Book Thief did. I especially enjoyed how as a reader I got to know Liesel so
well. This book is not very long for the fact that it spans almost 5 years of Liesel’s life. She
changes so much as a character and I loved watching her grow. Something very unique is that
the narrator is Death so there is foreshadowing on when some characters may die or when they
are close to dying. I loved this book so I definitely recommend it!
