From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout is the first book in the Blood and Ash series. Poppy, a maiden who was chosen from birth, never got to control her life. She’s hidden from the world, and has to wear a veil to cover her face. Even though the kingdom’s future depends on Poppy’s Ascension, she would rather be with the guards and fight the evil lurking in the kingdom than to be found worthy by the Gods. As unexpected things start occuring, she starts losing those she holds dear. When Poppy and Hawke (the mysterious guard who she is captivated by) set out to go to the capital to ensure Poppy’s safety, things take a turn and soon everything unravels and Poppy is finding out that everything she once thought was true was all a lie, and that the person she once trusted isn’t who she thought they were at all.
This book was a roller coaster of emotions. If you're a fan of dystopian fantasy with romance then you should definitely consider reading this book. You will fall in love with the characters and their relationships are so sweet. The plot twists were those you would have never seen coming. I saw this book online everywhere and heard a lot of great reviews on it and finally decided to read it. After I started, I couldn’t put it down! The characters, settings, plots, basically the whole book was so captivating. There were no parts that were boring or slow and I think the author did a great job on keeping the reader on the edge of their seats. I was definitely not disappointed in this book one bit and cannot wait to read the second book.
