Beyond: A Ghost Story was published in 2012, and was written by Graham McNamee. The protagonist here is Jane, who lives in a dark and rainy town on Canada’s coastline. She was born dead, as the doctors found no pulse in her heart. Something eerie happened during this short time, just before the doctors managed to fix her heartbeat. The course of her life changed… for the worse. After several near-death experiences, Jane starts to suspect that her bad luck is no coincidence.

The reason I enjoyed this book was because I specifically enjoy reading the mystery and horror genres. Although this book has a unique plot, it's quite basic. I also feel the author may have put too much effort into making the book seem gloomy; just based on the setting. Even though the majority of these kinds of books take place in a dark area, I feel that the setting does not contribute here and is mentioned just for the sake of it. This book was by no means bad; I enjoyed it. However, I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone as “great”. This is mainly because of the amount of such books that I think are more enjoyable. I give this book a 3 out of 5.
