Attack Of The Black Rectangles By Amy Sarig King (A.S. King) is about a boy named Mac, and his two friends who are all starting 6th grade together. At their school their teacher is named Ms. Sett. When they start reading in small groups Mac’s group gets a book on the Holocaust: “The Devil's Arithmetic”, they find large black rectangles covering certain words on the page. When Mac and his friends, Marci and Dennis discover this they go to the public library and search up the words that were censored. They all get very angry as they find out who did this. When they do they go to the principal and ask for new copies for their reading group. When the principal brushes them off they start a protest against censoring books with the help of Mac’s grandfather and his mother.

This book has many sad chapters. It also mentions some gruesome scenes from “The Devil's Arithmetic”. I like this book because King did a good job describing the Holocaust and made the characters really sweet. I liked that Mac and his friends all started a protest instead of just being angry and not doing anything. I would recommend this book to people ages 10-15. I hope you read this book and love it as much as I did!
