The Assassin's Blade is a fantasy prequel in the Throne of Glass series, written by Sarah J. Maas. We are introduced to the main character, Celaena Sardothien. Celaena works for Arobynn in the Assassin’s Guild. This book contains five stories of her time working for Arobynn, the head of the Assassin’s Guild. We learn about Celaena’s character, her morals, and goals.  We are introduced to other characters that will continue in the Throne of Glass series.  Celaena’s stories are fueled by the motivation of wanting to leave the Assassin’s Guild; for many members, the only way out is to purchase your freedom. Arobynn plots against Celaena’s goal of freedom by sending her on many missions to occupy her time, and assigning her seemingly impossible tasks. Arobynn comes up with a plan to keep Celaena to himself, resulting in tragedy.

This book is about five specific missions, and the connections Celaena makes during them. I enjoyed reading this book, though the multiple stories inside can be confusing. I would recommend this book to someone who can understand the complexity of the series, and who enjoys fantasy. These stories inside the book are interesting, with new characters and a new setting every time. I would rate this book 4 stars.
