The book, The Alchemyst by Michael Scott, follows Nicholas Flamel, and Sophie and Josh
Newman, on their quest to stop the evil Dr.John Dee from stealing the book of Abraham to end
the world. They plan to awaken Sophie and Josh’s magical powers and escape to Paris.
Though it won’t be easy, because John Dee is determined to stop them, as he raises an army
and attacks Nicholas, Sophie and Josh. They are only able to awaken Sophie's powers at the
last minute. In the end Nicholas, Sophie and Josh are able to escape through the portal that
whisks them to Paris.
In my opinion, it is a well-written book that makes you want to read the rest of the series. The
author did a nice job of switching between the character’s perspectives to show their thoughts
and reasoning. Additionally, the cliffhanger at the end of the book definitely makes you eager to
find out what happens in the next book. The Alchemyst is a nice blend of magic and the modern
world, and a good read for teenagers and young adults.
