Addie Bell’s Shortcut to Growing Up by Jessica Brody, is a book about a 12 year-old girl named
Addie, who wishes she was 16. She wants her parents to let her do anything (like wear make-up
and have a phone), like how they let her older sister. But they tell her she needs to wait 4 more
years! And to make matters worse, her best friend Grace couldn’t care any less about that stuff.
Then, on the night of her twelfth birthday, Addie writes a wish to become 16 on a piece of paper
and places it in a magic jewelry box...and wakes up to find herself 4 years into the future! She
has a phone, drawers overflowing with makeup, and everyone calls her Adeline. This is her
dream come true....until she finds out that Grace is one of her enemies, and that her sister left
for college. Addie wishes she can go back and live her life to the fullest at 12, instead of facing
all the drama when she’s 16. Can Addie reverse her wish and make everything right until it’s too
I enjoyed reading this book. I was not disappointed in any part of it, and enjoyed reading it
because every part was very interesting. It was a funny book and I would recommend this book
to teens who like reading fiction books. I would rate this book a 4/5.
