This exciting, creative novel is centered around a girl named Abeni who lives in a pretty secluded village in the forest with her family & community. On the morning of her birthday, she wakes up excited for the Harvest festival that will take place, unknowing of the real events that will take place. Everything is normal at first till the witch enters the village, bringing terrible news of a great danger that they would soon face. Following this, Abeni witnesses her friends, family, and community getting taken away by horrible “storm women” and a man with goat-fur clothing. She is saved from all this chaos by the witch and ends up learning all the secrets and mysteries in the world that she never knew before in her isolated village. Abeni vows to save her family & friends in the beginning of a huge adventure she never knew she would take.

I really liked this book, and I thought it was a really good read. I love how fast-paced it was with all the different things that happened in this book. I thought that it was super creative & cool to mix in West African culture with the plot. I also really loved some of the eccentric, charismatic, interesting characters in this book. Overall, I’m really excited for the sequel to come out & I really enjoyed reading this novel. I recommend this to people who like fantasy, adventure, and just a very extraordinary read.
