Build a haunted house of your own
At the Library’s Spooky Cottages events, participants will use base structures and supplies prepared by the Black & Veatch MakerSpace to build and decorate miniature spooky dwellings. Costumes are encouragedand registration is required for each person making a cottage.
Meet a bestselling mystery author
On Oct. 16, children’s author Lindsay Currie will visit Central Resource Library in Overland Park to discuss her writing career, share how she finds inspiration and introduce readers to her upcoming book, “The Secret Bookstore Sleuth Society,” the first in a new mystery series. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow. Books will be available for purchase through Rainy Day Books.
Hear stories with a haunted twist
Stories take center stage at InterUrban ArtHouse Presents: A Spooky Storytelling Night at Lenexa City Center Library. A curated lineup of storytellers will explore the mysterious, uncanny and imaginative, with tales ranging from suspenseful and haunting to humorous and thought‑provoking. Attendees can stay afterward to meet the storytellers and learn more about their work.
Solve a mystery or make something of your own
Adults can test their problem-solving skills at the Library’s Mystery Novel Escape Rooms, working through clues and puzzles alongside fellow Library visitors.
For those who would rather make than investigate, the Black & Veatch MakerSpace offers equipment and creative tools for seasonal projects, including costume pieces and Halloween decorations.
Readers interested in folklore and the supernatural can hear from Devon A. Mihesuah, an author, historian and citizen of the Choctaw Nation. During October, she will discuss her novel “The Hatak Witches,” which explores the intersections of history, culture, family and magic.
On Oct. 24, Central Resource Library will host Honoring Día de los Muertos. Participants can learn about the symbols and traditions of the Mexican holiday and take part in an activity honoring loved ones.
