Obsidian, the first book in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series, was shamefully addicting. This book fits the typical YA paranormal romance plotline, but I couldn’t put it down. Katy, a typical girl next door character, moves to the middle of nowhere in West Virginia, where her neighbors, Daemon and Dee Black, are aliens. Forming a relationship with the Blacks places Katy in the middle of a timeless rivalry between the Luxen and their evil alien counterparts, the Arum.

Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte is captivating, dynamic, and contains numerous twists and turns. This fantasy fiction book consists of murder mystery and hints of romance and sci-fi. Perplexing characters with complex motives and a fascinating fantasy world elevated this book to another level. The novel is centered around Keralie Corrington, a seventeen-year-old girl  who steals, lies, and deceives for a living. Mackiel, her childhood friend and employer tasks her with stealing a case.

The Selection by Kiera Cass is a dystopian fantasy novel that follows America Singer as she is put into the Selection, a contest of 35 girls competing for the prince’s heart. I have been putting off reading this book for a long time because of its heavily mixed reviews, but I’m happy to say that I was not disappointed.
