Reflections on Water

By: Jessica Sutter

The water spraying around me
The waves like endlessness enveloping me,
Surrounding me, smothering me
The hugeness of the ocean
Obscures my vision
Numbs my senses
Yet I feel the waves
Pounding, beating.
I feel the water
Splashing, swirling.
I feel the creatures dance and sing,
I join them
and I am gone.

***

Blue swirls,
Colorful stripes and spots of color moving,
Swimming around me
Bubbles
salt on my tongue
Whorls of light
Distorted by the surface above me
Sleek grey bodies brush my hand
Playful liquid black eyes
Orange towers of spongy coral
Water flowing through my hair
It’s like it’s flowing through my mind
Erasing all but this moment.
