Central Resource Library Closed Monday, Aug 2 - Sunday, Aug 15
Construction is well underway on the Central Resource Library renovations, which include an expanded and improved Kids area, additional meeting rooms, and the addition of a drive-thru. In order to complete large-scale electrical and HVAC work, the building will fully close to both the public and staff Monday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 15. Hold pickups, materials return, and public computers will not be available during this time, and interlibrary loans will be suspended.
- Sunday, Aug. 1 is the last day to return materials to Central's interior materials return bin. From Monday, Aug. 2 until Little Central reopens on Monday, August 16, all items should be returned at another branch.
Please note that if you have items checked out from Central that will be due during the closure, your due dates have been extended until Little Central reopens. Check your library account for specific dates.
- Holds and interlibrary loan items ready for pickup but not checked out by 5 p.m. on Aug. 1 will remain on-shelf until Sunday, Aug. 21.
If you would like to change the pickup location for holds or interlibrary loan items anticipated to become available during Central's closure, please login to your library account or contact us before Friday, July 30. Otherwise, your upcoming holds will show as paused on your account until we resume processing Central's holds on Aug. 12.
- Public computers, including printing and copying services, are available at our other 13 Johnson County Library locations. Oak Park (9500 Bluejacket St, Overland Park) has the closest proximity to Central.

Join Us in Merriam
Antioch Library is relocating to the Merriam Community Center campus, and we want to hear from you!
The Library is working with Dake Wells Architecture to design the new Library for the future, and to meet the changing needs of the community. Join us for a live input session where you will meet the architects, learn about the project, and ideate about your future library.
When: Wednesday, July 7 from 6 - 7:30 PM*
Where: Future site of the Library @ Merriam Community Center campus
This open-house-style program will be outside in person. Travel to the Merriam Community Center parking structure, 6040 Slater St, Merriam, KS, and then join the team under the tents on the adjacent green space, the future site of the Library.
*Note: Due to wet site conditions and the chance of rain, this event was rescheduled from June 30.

Cedar Roe Reopening
Cedar Roe Library will reopen its doors on June 21 at 9 am, after the completion of a critical upgrade to the building's HVAC system, as well as other exciting improvements to enhance your experience.
During its recent closure, Cedar Roe Library received a new HVAC system, new shelving and a new building layout that maximizes natural light and patron convenience, a full inventory and a deep cleaning. We also piloted a curbside holds pickup service that allowed us to serve nearly 2000 patrons during the building's closure. This service will continue to operate after the building reopens.
We anticipate Cedar Roe closing briefly later this Summer for a roofing replacement. Watch jocolibrary.org and @jocolibrary on social media for announcements. Thank you for your patience as we improve our facilities!

We are excited for patrons to return to Cedar Roe Library! You'll find all-new shelving and we've moved a few things around. We think you will really enjoy the new kids area and our relocated reading room. It was no easy task! We removed every book from every shelf. We then removed the old shelves and installed new ones. Imagine Your New Library
Johnson County Library is excited to have begun the design process for the new Library in Merriam. And it’s time to hear from you!
Tonight, Wednesday, May 19, our first public input session will be held virtually. In this session, you’ll have a chance to meet the architects, become familiar with their community involvement approach, learn about the project, and ideate about your future library.
The current Antioch Library has been a fixture in the Merriam community for over 60 years; staff and patrons alike have many fond memories of the building – some having visited Antioch their entire lives.
The new building will be located just a few blocks away on the campus of the Merriam Community Center. This summer, the design for the replacement Library is being developed with an eye toward the future, ensuring the ability to meet the changing needs of the community. Construction is anticipated to occur after the design is finalized with completion in 2023.

Update: Central Resource Upgrade
As you know, we're making areas of Central Resource Library even better in 2021! Here's a little peek at what's been going on behind the scenes.
During April, crews installed a new boiler and completed MakerSpace improvements. In addition, shoring was installed for new exterior openings, existing precast walls were removed, and new wall framing installed. Demo work began at the Drive-Thru addition.
We know you may have many questions about what to expect this year, so we’ve put together a Construction FAQ that addresses the status of popular services like the Black & Veatch MakerSpace and Genealogy resources, more details about Little Central, and where to find alternate services. You’ll also find a Fly-Through video rendering of the project.
In addition to its public service staff, Central is home to many departments that support all 14 branches. Once the work at Central is complete, you will feel the positive impact across the Library system!

Update: Central Resource Library
As you're probably aware, we are making areas of Central Resource Library even better in 2021! Here's a little peek at what's been going on behind the scenes.
During March, crews completed the interior demolition of the Kids area. In addition, the slab flooring was cut to install footings for new door and window openings and to install underground utilities. Crew members also installed temporary walls where the new addition will connect to the current building.

Cedar Roe Library Upgrades
We're improving your Library!
The Cedar Roe Library will be closed April 19 through June 20 to complete a critical upgrade to the building's HVAC system, as well as shelving updates and other exciting improvements to enhance your experience. It will re-open Monday, June 21 at 9 am.
Curbside Holds Pickup service will be available during most of the closure. Watch the Cedar Roe Library location page for updates on the availability of Curbside Holds Pickup. There will be an exterior book return available during the closure.
