Central Resource Library Remodel Progress

Have you been wondering how construction is going at Central? Here’s a sneak peek at some of the new and improved features you’ll find when the Central Resource Library reopens this spring.

Our drive-up exterior book drop will reopen with the addition of a new drive-thru holds pickup window. You’ll be able to return your materials and pick up your available holds in one spot without leaving your vehicle! Check out the slideshow to see how this addition has progressed over the last few months.

Crews have also been hard at work creating a brand-new Kids area, in the southeast corner of the building. In the slideshow photos, you can see the progress as the new storytime room (at the back of the area pictured) is framed, drywalled, and painted. You can also see the large new windows allowing for increased natural light and cheerful spots to page through a book or two with your little ones. Finally, catch a glimpse at the colorful tile in the new Kids restroom.

You’ll find answers to many common questions about this project in our Construction FAQ, which also features a Fly-Through video rendering of the project. We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to a fully open Central!

TBT: Fall Classic

Goodbye boys of summer and hello fall classic. We inch closer and closer to the end of the marathon-long baseball season. To say farewell to America's pastime, we suggest heading over to Jocohistory and perusing portraits of old time players. There's a section devoted to nothing but baseball team group photos. Can you find the picture with one mischievous player wearing a sea captain's hat?

Celebrate Throwback Thursday, it's a home run! Remember, Jocohistory is the place to time travel through local history. Be sure to follow our hashtag on Twitter! Some call TBT the best day of the week.

Did you get a chance to hear this month's podcast episode?

Some call it Civic Engagement. We call it Community Matters! We get the inside scoop on the "how," "what" and "why" behind Legislative Coffees, Civics 101, Gather at the table, the News and Views group, Librarian Research Guides and Elections.

Members of the Civic Engagement committee phone in to share why they participate on this important team and explain why community matters.

Charles talks to Community Matters Book Club coordinator Melanie Fuemmeler. Our music guest is Jill Westra & Them KC Boys sharing the track "Speedin' Again" and an essay from author Virginia Brackett.

Come spend an entertaining hour with us. Who knows, this might just be the episode where we finally find Paul Rudd! (Spoiler alert ... it's not.)
