Extraordinary History

The tall monument piercing Kansas City's skyline isn't just a fancy way to remind us World War I happened. Liberty Memorial also represents an extraordinary citywide effort to commemorate the lives given in the pursuit of liberty. For the full story, we look to Derek Donovan, author and public editor and director of research and information at The Kansas City Star, and his book Lest the Ages Forget: Kansas City's Liberty Memorial.

Donovan will join National World War I Museum senior curator Doran Cart to share the remarkable story. Stick around for a book signing, too. You can purchase an updated edition of Donovan's book at our event from the Friends of the Johnson County Library.
