Let's Talk: Conversations About Race

Our Beyond Skin series presents Let's Talk: Conversations about Race. This an event where you have the opportunity to share and learn about issues surrounding race right in your neighborhood. It's timely, given the current issues in Ferguson.

When did you first realize race existed? When did you first realize race mattered? Is race still an issue in the United States? Kansas City and Johnson County? Join us at the Central Resource Library for a panel discussion to discuss race and ethnicity in the Kansas City metro. Featuring:

  • Shane Evans, local artist and illustrator
  • Bill Tammeus, former Kansas City Star columnist
  • Michelle T. Johnson, Kansas City Star's "Diversity Diva" columnist and playwright
  • Dr. Uzziel Pecina, UMKC Professor of Educational Leadership, Policy & Foundations
  • Carol Burns, graduate of Haskell, filmmaking graduate student at KU
  • Pete Cowdin, local artist and co-owner of local children's bookstore, Reading Reptile
