Once upon a time, there were two sisters.  One named Rachael, the other named Brittney. Rachael was the adventurous one, while Brittney was the cautious one.  Either way they were both very good girls.

Brittney, being a teenager, spent a lot of time at her friends’ houses.  So that meant there weren’t many chances for ten year old Rachael to play with fourteen year old Brittney.  So when she was able to, well, let’s just say she made the most out of it.

Today was one of those days. “Girls, go outside and play.  Together.”  Ms. C. said. “Yay!”  Said Rachael.

“Mom, can I just go see Stella and Margho?”  Brittney asked.  “No. It’s good for you to play with your sister.  And,” Ms. C. added, “Give your iPod to me. And your ear pods.

“No! I need my ear pods and my iPod!  Rachael is so annoying!”  Brittney exclaimed. “No I’m not!”

Rachael told her sister, “You’re mean!”  “Girls!” Ms. C. yelled, “Go outside and I don’t want any if’s, and’s, or but’s about it.”

“Fine.”  Brittney said with a shrug. “What do you wanna do?” She asked her sister.  Rachael was dumbfounded.

Brittney never asked her that.  She always sat on the porch-swing and Facetimed her best friend, Sally.  Finally, she said, “How about we go exploring?”

The girls used to go exploring all the time.  But when they moved to Kansas, they stopped.  “Oh Rachael,” Brittney said, “No way.”  “Hey, you asked me” “I know but-” Ms. C. cut in.  “I think it’s a great idea.  You’re going.”

“Okay,” Brittney said, “I guess I’ll make the most of it.”  “Now that’s the spirit!”  Ms. C. said.  “Let’s pretend we’re explorers on a mission!”  Rachael said, enthusiastically.

“Yeah, if the mission is to make me miserable,” Brittney said, ruining the moment.  “Brittney,” Ms. C. warned. “Yeah, yeah, you’re right,” she shrugged.

Rachael, already outside, called out to them, “Britt, help me move this stone!”  “It’s just a rock.  I’m coming.”  “It’s not just a rock!”  She said, mimicking her sister.  “It’s a boulder!”

“A boulder!” Brittney exclaimed.  “What is a boulder this big doing in Kansas?” She was dumbfounded.  “I don’t know, now help me move it!

“This thing is heavy!” Rachael said. “Of course it’s heavy. This is a big boulder!”  Brittney fired back.

Finally, they moved it.  But what they saw behind it was a sight for sore eyes.  Behind the boulder, there was a swirling milky way!  There was pink, purple, black, and blue!  It even had stars swirling about inside it!

“What is this?”  Brittney asked, “None of the textbooks have ever said anything about a…a…a… what is this?” Rachael said, “It looks like a portal.”  She didn’t know how right she was.

“Well, Brittney, can we go in?”  “If you want to go inside the house, I’m all about that.  But if you want to go in there,” Brittney said, pointing to the portal, “Then no.” But it was too late.  Rachael was already going in and pulling Brittney in with her!

They both screamed.  They were now part of the swirling mess.  Then, next thing both girls knew they were falling through the sky of what looked like another dimension.  Suddenly something caught them.  But neither of them saw anything or knew what it was.

Then, Rachael said, “Look!  Your back!” “What, Rachael, there’s nothing on my back.”  But when she actually turned to look at Rachael, what she saw made her gasp.  She had wings!

Brittney then turned to look at her own back.  She had wings too!  No wonder they were floating in mid-air with nothing in sight!  Suddenly there was a jerk from Brittney’s purse.  The same with Rachael’s backpack.

When Brittney opened her purse, she saw her book.  She had brought it with her just in case she got really bored.  But when she took it out to see if there was anything else in it, Rachael suddenly bumped into her causing her to drop the book!  “Rachael, what was that for?  I was just getting to the juicy part in my book!”

“Sorry, I was just seeing what was in my backpack.  And guess what?  My iPad, it had a website pulled up on it!”  “Well of course it had a website!  It’s an iPad!”

“No!  Britt!  I had it locked and on home screen. But someone made me drop it when they bumped into me.  I’m referring to you!”

You bumped into me, but whatever.”  Suddenly, they heard a flapping sound coming from behind them.  When they turned around, they saw their iPad and book hovering in mid-air.  But that’s not all, both had wings!

They both took their belongings out of the air.  They were both more surprised than they had ever been.  “Rachael, my book changed!  The title is ‘How to be a Good Fairy’!

“That’s the title of my website, too!” Rachael said.  “Let’s read.”  Brittney said.  And both girls read.

In perfect unison, they both finished reading and looked up.  “Well, what do we do now?” Rachael asked.  “Well, I guess we, uh, fly to the ground and explore.”  Brittney said.

But before they could fly anywhere, another fairy flew up to them.  “Hello, girls.  My name is Rosa. We’ve been expecting you.  Follow me and I’ll give you a tour of Sparkle Ville.”

“First, let’s go to the fairy den.  That’s where all of the fairies gather if there is a human that came in the wrong way or a knifecorn (a unicorn with a knife horn.) A bad fairy, or simply a meeting.  This is a multi-purpose den or hangout spot.  You can live in my room after the tour.  Would you like that?”

“Rosa sure is bubbly.  I like it!” Rachael to Brittney.  “Yes, we would.”  Brittney said, ignoring Rachael.

Soon, Rosa was done with the tour.  She showed them the fairy history museum, the fairy hospital, the fairy tinker shop, the underground fly road.  (The underground rail road except for fairies), and the fairy bakery, where they all had some marvelous scones.  Then the girls were tired, so they went back to the fairy den, where they slept safe and sound.  They were very excited for the day to come.

Finally, daybreak came.  Rachael was up at the break of dawn.  Today, they were going to a meeting that was apparently being held to welcome them.  Then they would go to the fairy history museum to figure out how to be fairies.  Next, they would spend the rest of the day practicing being fairies.  Last, they would they would go to dinner at the fairy dining hall and dessert from the fairy bakery called ‘Fairy Sweets Galore’ who’s motto was “Fairy Sweets Galore’, every time you have some, you’ll still want more.’

First up: the meeting.  Jingle bells chimed as their alarm clock sounded.  “Morning already?” Brittney groaned. But as far as Rachael, she was up and ready to go!

“Brittney!  Hurry up or we’ll be late for the meeting.  Morning comes earlier in Fairy Land.”  Rachael said.  “Since when are you the one who’s worrying about being late?”  Brittney asked, crankily.

“I only get like this when I’m excited, now hurry up.” “Ok, Ok, you don’t have to scream.”  “Oh, yes I do if I want to be on time.”  Rachael said, mater-o-factly.

Just then, Rosa burst through the door.  “Girls, girls, please, stop fighting. You are in good fairy land now, no fighting aloud.  Now, here are your fairy outfits.” Rosa said.

The outfits that she placed on the beds were the most beautiful clothes ever seen.  Rachael’s outfit was in orange shirt coated in glitter and only one diagonal strap.  With it was a skirt with foe leaves and glitter.  With that were some shoes that were dark orange and had foe brown vines coiling around the shoes.  The shoes were boots.

Brittney’s was a purple sweater-vest with a collar made of fairy dust.  Also a foe leaf skirt with more fairy dust.  Under that were purple leggings.  Also some purple flats.

“Do you mind if I change in here? This used to be my room.  Because you are guests, I had to sleep in my sister, Madeline’s room.  My clothes are still in here.”  “Go ahead, we don’t care!”  Rachael said.

When Rosa came out, she looked like a life sized flower.  She had a glittery pink shirt with a ribbon to tie in the back.  Her skirt had three glittery layers. She had beautiful red flats her pink hair was braided in two French braids.  Beautiful!

Brittney, why don’t you put your hair into something?  Some fairies think they look naked if they don’t have their hair up.  They may take it as an insult. Careful, carful, careful.”  Rosa said.

Brittney put her hair into a ponytail.  “Rosa,” Rachael asked, “why is your hair pink, Brittney’s hair is purple, but my hair is the same old brown?”  “Well,” Rosa said.  “Because you’re wearing a wig.  When you come to fairy land, your natural hair color comes off. A different color of hair forms underneath it Brittney’s hair color came off in her sleep.  Then it disappears.”

“Just pull your hair off.  Let’s see what your color is.”  Rosa explained.  Rachael pulled on her hair.  Sure enough, a layer of hair came off.  “Ooh!  Your color is blue! Now braid it.”  Once they had gotten themselves ready, they set out for the meeting.

Actually, it was more boring than they expected.  There was only one thing going on.  Everybody said welcome and their names.

                                    “Welcome! I’m Ainsley!”

                                    “Welcome! I’m Beatrice!”

                                    “Welcome! I’m Cydney!”

                                    “Welcome! I’m Danielle!”

                                    “Welcome! I’m Evelyn!”

And so on.  Every fairy had a different name.  Unlike the human world.  That way, no one got confused.  There were no last names in fairy land.

Now, they would go to the fairy museum.  They found out who the first fairy was: Alice.  The first bad fairy: Addison.  They also got their portraits painted.  Now it was time for dinner.  This was the perfect time to show off their new magic.

They planned to make fireworks appear in the night sky.  “Alright, are you ready?” Brittney asked Rachael.  “That’s like asking if you want chocolate.  Yes!”  When it was finally time to show off their new skills (when everyone was finished with dinner) Rosa came up onto the stage. “Welcome all fairies.  We are here to also welcome our new friends from the human world: Rachael and Brittney!”

“Here, they will show us what they have learned about the fairy way. Without further ado, please welcome none other than Rachael and Brittney!” With that, Brittney flicked her finger, and out of nowhere, fireworks came bursting up into the night sky.  They stopped about mid-way.  Rachael nodded her head and the fireworks rearranged themselves into shapes.

One was a pair of wings.  Another was a heart with a crossbow arrow through it. The last few turned into a message.  It said:

Dear Fairies of Sparkle Ville,

Thank you so much for having us here, but we really must be going.  You see, we did a spell so we could see our    parents.  They were on the phone with some people called the police and thought we had been kidnapped. We will visit once a month.  We won’t come more than that because our parents will figure it out.  Please forgive us.

With lots of fairy dust,

R+B

With that, everyone was shocked.  But no one seemed to notice that the girls were gone, and so was Rosa.

Rosa sat down on a cloud.  “We will miss you.”  She said.  “Us too.”  Rachael said back.  “Well, the portal’s this way.” She said, pointing up.  With that, Rachael and Brittney flew up and were suddenly sucked into it.

Grandma Rosa closed the book.  “And that, my dear Wendy, is how humans and fairies came to be friends.  All because of Auntie Rachael and Aunt Brittney.
