We citizens often hear about guns in the media, but the average person may not know what all the terms mean or what the laws are. In this neutral, fact-based forum, find out what you need to understand to become a full participant in the national conversation about guns, gun safety and gun control.

What Every Citizen Should Know About Guns

Tuesday, Oct. 4
6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Central Resource Library

This is an informational class about the basics of gun vocabulary, types and parts of a gun. Get a chance to see actual guns that have been made inert.

We reached out to our local police to suggest experts who could speak knowledgeably and answer your technical and legal questions. Based on their recommendations we've invited representatives of the Overland Park Police Department and Centerfire Shooting Sports to explain firearms vocabulary, present different types of guns and parts of a gun and explain the relevant laws that affect every Kansan. A question and answer session will follow presentations from:

  • Bill Koehn, crime prevention officer with Overland Park Police Department
  • Terry "TR" Allen, range master, department armorer and lead firearm instructor with Overland Park Police Department
  • Jean Basore, co-owner of Centerfire Shooting Sports
  • Corinne Mosher, director of education at Centerfire Shooting Sports

With this class, we hope to arm you with information as our nation continues to discuss the role of guns in American life. Come learn with us!
