Fun Around the Story: The Very Busy Spider

We had a tremendous turnout this morning! Here's what we did:

Welcome Song

Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now your here, let's have some fun.
First we'll clap our hands just so.
Then we'll reach and touch our toes.
Welcome, welcome, everyone,
Now your here, let's have some fun.

Read: Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle.
You can put a hold on the book to borrow it from us by clicking on the title.

Little Miss Muffet

Little Miss Muffet, sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey.
Along came a spider, that sat down beside her,
and frightened Miss Muffet away.

Game: Little Miss/Mr. Muffet Game

This game was from the Preschool Education.com website.
A section of floor was taped off to be the "tuffet", each child had a paper spoon and bowl of curds and whey. For each round I said the Miss Muffet rhyme
while holding a stuffed spider toy and when the spider sits down next to the group of kids they were frightened away back to their grownups. We played three times, the first time they crawled back, the second they hopped back and
the final time they acted like chickens, and flapping their arms and clucked.

Craft: Hand-print spider.

1. Dip both hands in black tempera paint and press them one at a time onto the paper with the fingers pointing out, and the palms touching.
2. When dry, cut out and slightly bend the fingertips to make legs.
3. Poke a pin through the center and thread a string to be the spider's silk.
4. Add wiggly eyes if desired.

The Spider on the Wall [Tune: Twinkle Twinkle]

There's a spider on the wall, If he's careful he won't fall.
He moves slowly down the wall,
I can watch him crawl and crawl.
I wonder if he minds my stare,
or does he know and just not care.

The Spider in his Web [Tune: "Farmer in the Dell"]

The spider in his web, the spider in his web,
Spin, spin, oh watch him spin, The spider in his web.
The spider gets a [wasp, ant, ladybug...]
The spider gets a ....
Spin, spin, oh watch him spin, The spider in his web.

Game: Pin the Spider on the Web

Draw a spider web on a large piece of paper, then put it up on the wall. Each child gets a paper spider that has a waxed back so it will stick on the wall and they spin around and then try to get their spider on the web with their eyes closed.

The letters of the alphabet are drawn from a basket and they put their stickers over the letters they have on their sheet.
Once all three letters are covered they call bingo and get a spider stamp.

The Spider Spins a Web [Tune: "The Farmer in the Dell"]

The spider spins a web. The spider spins a web.
Round, round, up and down, the spider spins a web.

Additional verses:
She spins it in and out...
She spins it back and forth...
She spins it good and strong...

I'm a Little Spider [Tune: "Little Teapot"]

I'm a little spider, watch me spin.
If you'll be my dinner, I'll let you come in.
Then I'll build my web to hold you tight,
