Celebrate the Spanish Language

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, famed creator of the novel Don Quixote (El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha), rubs shoulders with the likes of Homer, Dante and Shakespeare as one of the greatest writers of his time. To honor his enduring contributions to the Spanish language, we're spending an evening immersed in Spanish … literally!

On April 23, the anniversary of Cervantes' death, we're joining language lovers in all Latinoamerican countries to celebrate el Día Mundial del Idioma Español (Day of the Spanish Language).

Thursday, April 23
6:30 - 8 p.m.
Antioch Library

We're excited to host guest speakers from Johnson County Community College: Luz María Álvarez, professor of Spanish originally from Mexico, and Eugenio González, Spanish writer and adjunct professor originally from Spain. They will delve into an intriguing comparison and historical explanation of Spanish variations across different regions of the world. All conversation will be in Spanish, and language learners and experts of all levels are welcome to attend.
