Soccer Summer
This summer, Kansas City welcomed the world — and so did we.
In the summer of 2026, the world arrived in Kansas City. Soccer fans from countries around the world experienced the warmth and charm of the Midwest, filling stadiums and public spaces with their energy and excitement. Johnson County Library welcomed fans, neighbors and visitors with comfortable spaces where they explored all that the Library has to offer.
How We Prepared
Johnson County Library planned to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event by finding more opportunities to enrich people’s lives through access to ideas, information, experiences and materials. We hosted record-setting numbers of patrons in our branches and set the stage for a bright future ahead.
What We Added
- Every location has a confidential handheld translation device to enable us to connect with more Library users.
- Secure phone charging lockers at many branches let patrons safely recharge their devices while enjoying our spaces.
- Our smash-hit Summer Reading program centered on soccer and celebrating the beautiful game together.
What We Enhanced
- Library-wide multilingual initiatives focus on making all feel welcome in our branches.
- We upgraded our networks to help you browse the internet faster than ever before.
- New digital displays and updated audio/video equipment were installed in many branches to keep you informed and up-to-date.
