Maker Project: Jellyfish Automaton
Learn about automaton mechanisms and cardboard construction with this jellyfish project
In this project guide, we have the files you need to 3D print and laser cut the needed pieces as well as step-by-step instructions on how to assemble them all together.
What you'll need:
- 3mm thick cardboard sheets, ideally 27"x17"
- A 3D printer and filament
- Two #2 pencils
3D Printing the Connectors
These 3D printed pieces have been designed to work 3mm thick cardboard. Using these pieces eliminates the need for glue and helps create a smoother motion for the final automaton.

Laser Cut the Cardboard
This project was designed and laid out for 24 x 17 inch cardboard sheets. You can use other sized cardboard as long as it is 3mm thick.
Download the laser cut files. This file includes multiple colors which represent different things on the laser. We recommend doing a test cut on your materials to be sure all settings are correct before running the final job.
