Shawnee Library will be closing for renovations beginning Monday, March 4, with anticipated reopening in June. Some of the changes you’ll notice include new exterior signage, a lobby refresh, new carpet and paint, new shelving, study room and entry enhancements and remodeled public restrooms. See more information

No services will be available at Shawnee during the closure period. Returns, holds pickup, public computers, printing and copying, meeting rooms and access to the collection are available at our other 13 locations across the county, including Central Resource Library (9875 W. 87th St., Overland Park) and Monticello Library (22435 W. 66th St, Shawnee). Both branches feature a convenient drive-thru for holds pick-up and materials return.

Here are a few important dates to keep in mind:

  • Friday, February 9 is the last day to request an item for holds or Interlibrary Loan pick up at Shawnee Library. After this date Shawnee will no longer show as an option to select when reserving materials through your Library account.
  • On Monday, February 26, all pending holds with a requested pickup location of Shawnee will be paused until the building reopens. You may choose to either:
         -  Take no action and leave the holds paused. Your holds will automatically resume in your account when the building reopens. You will not lose your place in line with a paused hold; your queue number will be adjusted automatically.
         -   Log in to your account through our website or app and select a new pickup location for any holds that may become available during the closure period.
  • Saturday, March 2 is the last day of services at Shawnee Library, including access to the collection, public computers, holds pick up, and materials return. Available holds not picked up by close of business at 5 p.m. will expire.

Please contact us with any questions about your holds or alternate locations for services.

We will post updates on this page, jocolibrary.org/shawnee, when we have confirmed a reopening date, currently anticipated to be sometime in June. Please note that reopening dates may shift slightly to accommodate delays caused by weather, supply chain constraints, or other unforeseen issues. You can also follow @jocolibrary on social media for additional construction updates.

This work is being done as part of Johnson County Library’s Capital Replacement Program, which modernizes and upgrades existing buildings in conjunction with the Library’s major capital projects. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve your facilities!
