to the sea we shall return by Eloise Arnold

for a moment
on the shore
with the sun in my eyes
i can hardly see the bodies
in the water

was it worth it?

the blood runs warm and then cold
like the currents
and i am dragged by the moon
with the tide

am i a memory?

there is salt on my face
from the sweat and the tears
and there is salt in my lungs
from the sea

i wonder if this is home.
