Dear Mom, by Maggie Orton

Mom, I’m scared
I’m scared to grow up
I’m scared to move out.
I’m scared to leave you.
But with tears in your eyes,
You say “It will be okay.”

But Mom, what if
What if I need you?
What if I’m lonely?
What if you're lonely?
With tears flowing down our faces
You say “It will be okay.”

Mom, I don't believe you.
I don’t believe in miracles.
I don’t believe in God.
I don’t believe in myself.
Still, with tears
Now staining our shirts.
You say “Good thing I believe in you.”
