About this issue
This issue of elementia is dedicated to poet and essayist Franny Choi, and to the theme of bodies, something our editors found themselves considering quite heavily during the continued quarantine and pandemic. Published in April 2021, it contains 55 pieces of writing and 69 pieces of art.
As the editors of issue xviii note:
"Our goal with this magazine is to open conversations about bodies. Whether tackling human bodies, bodies of water or governmental bodies, we wanted to create a space where voices across all spectra could express themselves. We pushed ourselves to go deeper than the physical body and to explore personal truths that are inherited from past generations and seldom shared with others. Especially this year, having the motivation to create art was difficult to find, yet artists and writers created works that stood out and reflected where they stood along their journey."
The editorial committee for the eighteenth issue consisted of teen selectors Emma Anderson, Kayla Doubrava, Yasi Farahmandnia, Gabbie Granoff, Olivia Humphrey, Elizabeth Joseph, Gaby Kill, Gillian Knaebel, Stephanie Kontopanos, Emme Mackenzie, Olivia Miller, Peter Mombello, Emily Natanova, Misha Rai, Isabelle Shachtman, Saadia Siddiqua and Neha Sridhar; teen designers Emma Anderson, Yasi Farahmandnia, Rachael Lawler and Wenhan Sun; as well as library staff Cassidy Coles, Emma Fernhout, Cassandra Gillig, Joseph Keehn, Kate McNair, Tiffany Rinne, Jennifer Taylor and Mickey Willard.
