A Review of William Shakespeare’s Fictional Drama: Romeo and Juliet

This work of William Shakespeare presents the drama between two lovers in Verona, Italy. They would like to become married to one another, but their opposing families stand in their way. The name of these “star-crossed” lovers are Juliet and Romeo, hence the title of the tragic drama. They attempt to circumvent such by concocting a plan to run away, but the efficacy of such a plan is not to be discussed in this review.

Macbeth is a tragedy written by Shakespeare, loosely based on Scottish history. It follows
Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth on their trials of prophecy. The Macbeth’s deal with a
self-fulling prophesy of gaining and loosing power as foretold by the staple three witches.
Personally I believe that Macbeth is an important piece of literature. Its historical impacts and
influences made it an important piece of work at the time, and it still has reference to today. But

One of the classic romantic plays that everyone knows about, even if they haven’t read it yet, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a lyrically written tragedy that revolves around two forbidden lovers whose families despise each other. You read about how Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet find desperate ways to allow them to be together, even though they aren’t supposed to. I wasn’t disappointed by this classic tragedy written by William Shakespeare.

When life gives you tennis balls, turn them into cannonballs! “Henry V” is written by William Shakespeare and is one of the greatest works of patriotism ever. The star of the story is a young and rowdy man who was most known at the time as Harry. Harry finds himself as the king of England after his father, Henry IV, dies. This poetic, engaging work of Shakespeare is probably one of the best loved plays out of all of Shakespeare’s plays. This is a play about many pairs of Lovers. You meet a few groups that play a big part in the story- the young lovers, workers coming together organizing a play, and fairies. I loved the poetic style of writing used and how you got to know the characters. It really makes you feel the love shared between the people though you also experience the deceiving acts of jealous, desperate people. I thought it was well written and presented a beautiful view of classic love.

“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” Hundreds of years after William Shakespeare’s death, and audiences are still entranced by his plays. Hamlet is no exception, as it is regarded as one of the greatest plays of all time. The book is about how the young Prince of Denmark (Hamlet) reacts when he discovers the life-changing news that, not only is the King (Hamlet’s father) dead, but his mother has married the Claudius, the King’s brother, and Claudius is now king.

William Shakespeare's Macbeth is a great tragedy showcasing how easily power can corrupt. Its heavy-driven plot and well-written characters keep you on your toes as you continue through the acts. Shakespeare's execution of character development is flawless all the more. The only downside to Macbeth is its challenging language as it's written in verse.

These Violent Delights is the first novel in Chloe Gong's historical fiction series of the same name. Set in 1926 Shanghai, a blood feud between two rival gangs tears the city apart until they lose control. When a contagious sickness runs rampant through Shanghai and turns the population mad, the teenage heirs of the two gangs must work together to save their city. Gong's retelling of Romeo and Juliet is unique and well-done.
