Welcome to the Film to Digital Converter! This Maker Kit lets you convert your old film negatives, slides, and even microfiche into digital images. Perfect for preserving family memories or archiving film photography projects. You can use it with a computer or as a standalone device.

Two Ways to Use the Scanner:

Standalone Mode (No Computer Needed)

In this mode, the scanner saves your scanned images directly to its internal memory or an optional memory card (cards cannot be more than 32 GB, SD/SDHC format).

Note: The scanner's internal memory can store approximately 35-40 images before requiring transfer or deletion.

Connected Mode (With a Computer)

Connect the scanner to your computer using the included USB cable to transfer and save images directly to your computer after scanning.


 

Option 1: Using the Scanner Without a Computer

 

1. Plug the USB cable into the converter.
2. Connect the other end to the power adapter and plug it into a power outlet.

Preparing and Scanning Film

1. Use the Slides Adapter for 35mm slides or the Negatives Adapter for film negatives.
2. Insert your film into the correct adapter, ensuring the shiny side faces up.
3. The film adapters have embossed words labeled 'This Side Up.'
4. Navigate to the Film Type menu on the scanner.
5. Use the left or right buttons to select the appropriate film type (e.g., Slides Positive, Color Negatives, Black & White).
6. Press the OK/Enter button to confirm.
7. Insert the adapter (with the film) into the scanner’s slot.
8. Adjust the film position as needed.
9. Press the Convert button to capture the image.
10. Press the OK button to save the image to the scanner’s internal memory or an inserted SD/SDHC card.

Transferring and Managing Files (Optional)

1. To move your images to a computer, connect the scanner to your computer using the USB cable.
2. The scanner will appear as a removable drive, allowing you to drag and drop your images. On Mac computers, iPhoto may automatically open when the scanner is connected. You can close iPhoto and access the scanner’s storage through Finder.


 

Option 2: Using the Scanner With a Computer

 

  • Plug the USB cable into the scanner and your computer.
  • The scanner will power on automatically.

2. Insert your film into the correct adapter, ensuring the shiny side faces up.

NOTES:

File Naming System

When images are saved, they are automatically assigned a sequential file name in the format PICT0001.JPG, PICT0002.JPG, PICT0003.JPG, and so on. All scanned images are stored in a folder labeled DCIM/100PHOTO. Files can be renamed or organized on your computer after transfer.

Transferring and Deleting Files

1. To transfer images to your computer, switch the scanner to USB Upload Mode and follow the on-screen instructions.
2. Once images have been successfully transferred, delete files from the scanner to free up storage for future scans.
