Getting your Johnson County Library card is easy...and it's free!
Don't live in Johnson County?
No problem! You can still get a card—just apply in person.
Under 16?
If you are under 16, you will need a parent or legal guardian to go to the library with you to get a card. They will need to provide physical identification.
Identification and proof of address
You don't need to live in Johnson County to get a Library Card, but we do need to verify your name and current address. You do have to reside in Johnson County to be granted an eCard.

Library Card
Our traditional Library Card. Put it in your wallet, backpack, purse, tote, fanny-pack, book bag or memorize the card number and frame it on your wall. What you get:
- Up to 30 holds
- Check out up to 25 items at a time on physical items
- Up to 150 checkouts on your account
- Access online resources anytime—no need for an eCard!
How to apply: The application requires you to come in to verify your information at the Questions desk at your local branch.

eCard
Our eCard is a good option if you don't have a traditional Library card and need immediate online access. What you get:
- Access online resources anytime
- Ability to place two holds on physical items
A few details: Online items—once you apply and receive your eCard, you're good to go! You can checkout from our eLibrary—eBooks, eAudiobooks, Streaming Video, eMagazines and eNewspapers! Physical items—you cannot checkout items from our physical collection with an eCard. You can place two holds, but you won't be able to check out those holds until your eCard is upgraded to a regular Library Card. Please visit staff inside a branch to transition your eCard to a verified card.

Educator Card
Individual teachers, childcare providers and home school educators teaching in Johnson County can apply for an Educator Card. This card allows you to check out materials for your classroom with a longer loan period. What you get:
- 5 week checkout period for physical materials and 3 weeks for eLibrary items.
- Renew checkouts up to 5 times (excluding items with holds.)
What you need to know: This card is intended to provide educators teaching in Johnson County access to materials that support their curriculum in the classroom. The card is for educational purposes only. Educator cards are issued to individuals, not to schools or to agencies. These special accounts expire after 1 year. Contact staff to renew.

Every Library card comes with a PIN/Password. Hang onto this number, because you'll need it to access many services including our eLibrary, online databases and placing online holds.
