About this issue

This issue of elementia is dedicated to poet Rudy Francisco, and to the theme of connection an apt theme as this issue was published in 2020 amidst stay-at-home orders and a growing pandemic. It contains 59 pieces of writing and 75 pieces of art.

As the editors of issue xvii note:

"Our goal with this magazine is to give a platform to a wide range of diverse authors and artists, and as editors we were especially aware of that this year. We wanted to challenge our notions of connection, to push ourselves to see past our own experiences and to take the time to understand this theme through new eyes. In the end, that’s what reading and writing is about: communicating and understanding new ideas and experiences."

The editorial committee for the seventeenth issue consisted of teen selectors Annie Barry, Haley Renee Born, Yasi Farahmandnia, Olivia Humphrey, Elizabeth Joseph, Gaby Kill, Gillian Knaebel, Emme Mackenzie, Patty McClain, Olivia Miller, Peter Mombello, Isabelle Shachtman, Saadia Siddiqua and Neha Sridhar; teen designers Haley Renee Born, Yasi Farahmandnia, Rachael Lawler and Wenhan Sunr; as well as library staff Becca Carleton, Cassidy Coles, Emma Fernhout, Cassandra Gillig, Kate McNair, Jennifer Taylor and Mickey Willard.
