Celebrate Black History Month with the African-American History Infobase

February is Black History Month, a time to recognize, reflect on and celebrate the rich history, culture and contributions of Black people. This month, and throughout the year, the Library is proud to provide access to African-American History, an online resource provided by Infobase.

The database offers trusted, in-depth content, including biographies, primary source documents, images, videos, timelines and scholarly articles. Patrons can explore the lives and legacies of influential figures such as Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, while also discovering lesser-known individuals whose achievements have shaped American history, culture, science, politics and the arts.

This eResource features topic pages, interactive timelines and curated collections that make it easy to explore key historical eras and movements, including the Civil Rights Movement, the Harlem Renaissance, Reconstruction and modern-day social justice efforts. Built-in research tools such as citation generators and Advanced Search options support both academic research and personal learning.

For educators and students, African-American History is an excellent research and learning tool. It supports classroom instruction, project-based learning and independent exploration by offering reliable, age-appropriate content in one easy-to-use platform. Access to primary sources such as speeches, letters and historical documents allows learners to engage directly with history, building critical-thinking and information-literacy skills.

Library staff and patrons are encouraged to explore this database during Black History Month to deepen their understanding of the past and present contributions of Black people. Whether you are completing a research assignment, planning a lesson or simply exploring out of personal interest, this eResource offers something for everyone.

Black history is an essential part of American history. By using this tool, our Library community can honor these stories, celebrate achievements and continue learning, this February and beyond.
