Message from the County Librarian

Sean Casserley
County Librarian

During most of 2014, Johnson County Library drafted a new Strategic Plan. We listened to our community, we listened to staff and we listened to our Library Board of Directors. These conversations provided us insight that helps ensure our vision is focused and our resources are utilized effectively and appropriately.

This process as you may expect was lengthy and thorough. It involved large “broad stroke” initiatives like numerous community meetings and staff input sessions, as well as small, targeted committees tasked with accomplishing specific portions of the work such as data condensing or goal writing.

This document provides a brief history of the process from inception to current state, and provides detail regarding how key decisions were made and by whom. It also provides a summation of the last few stages of the planning process which were the production and compilation of specific goals for the Library to work towards over the next several years. These goals are meaningfully organized in 3 key areas: Education, Community Building and Convenience. These are qualities of Library service our Johnson County patrons said are most important to them, and this plan takes that guidance to heart.

Ultimately, this Strategic Plan provides an overview of the next steps that Johnson County Library will take to ensure the vision and goals outlined here are realized. This is a living, breathing document, and we are eager to see it thrive for the benefit of all Johnson County Library users.
