“When you truly love someone and they love you in return, you ruin your lives together. That is not a curse, it’s what life is, my girl. We all come to ruin, we turn to dust, but whom we love is the thing that lasts.”

Three siblings, each strikingly bizarre, must learn to live their lives unimpeded from the curse which will kill anyone they fall in love with. Set in the early 20th century, Franny, Jet, and Vincent are an unorthodox family. Their mother sets rules in a fruitless attempt to abandon the curse that haunts the family along with her children, which leaves the three siblings to fend for themselves. Follow as they grow older and watch the various predicaments, they get themselves into.

This is an incredible book. I picked it up on a whim, and honestly didn’t expect much as it was the prequel to Practical Magic a book I had read just before this one, and just met my expectations. This book blew them away. I loved the characters, the storylines, the absolute wackiness that follows this dysfunctional family. I laughed, I cried, this book has it all, a must read. Definitely going on my list of favorites. It doesn’t even really fit with the sequel and can (and should be) read as a stand-alone. Five out of five stars, best book I’ve read this year.
