Don't live in Johnson County?

That's OK, anyone can get a traditional Johnson County Library card! We'll give you one even if you don't live in Johnson County. You'll just need to stop by to fill out an application in person.

Under 16?

No problem, your parent or legal guardian just needs to help with your Library card application.

Identification and proof of address

You don't need to live in Johnson County to get a traditional Library card, but we do need to verify your name and current address. For identification, we accept:

  • Driver's license
  • State identification
  • Passport
  • Consular identification card

For address verification, we accept:

  • Driver's license
  • State identification
  • Utility bill
  • Current residential lease
  • Postmarked piece of mail addressed to you
  • Postcard mailed to you from the Library (ask us for details)

If you apply for a traditional Library card in person without address verification, you can still access Library services such as computers and check out up to two items until you're able to confirm your address.

Card lost or stolen?

It happens. Please tell us immediately if your card is lost or stolen so we know not to hold you responsible for items checked out by someone else. We can issue you a new card right away. How much does that cost? Nothing. It's free.

Your PIN or Password

Every Library card comes with a PIN/Password. Hang onto this number, because you'll need it to access many services including our eLibraryonline databases and placing online holds.
