Meet the Author: Barbara Stuber

Join us in welcoming author Barbara Stuber as she discusses the role of provenance (the record of one's existence), art and connection in her recent book Girl in Reverse. The book's protagonist Lily uses ancient Chinese art to connect to her heritage and her identity. Lily is Chinese, and her Caucasian adoptive family does not understand the racism and bullying she encounters at school when her classmates confuse her with the North Koreans that America is at war with.

Stuber's life's work is to inspire connection, and readers will find connections to their own lives as her characters explore issues of identity, bullying and racism. Just like Lily in Girl in Reverse, Stuber also finds inspiration from art. She likes to help others do same at the Nelson-Atkins, where she is a docent.
