There are two major conferences for area writers happening in May.

The Missouri Writers Guild will be having their 2017 conference in Columbia, MO over the weekend of May 5-7. Registration is already open. Diverse speakers will present a variety of topics, and there will be numerous opportunities to share, pitch, network, and otherwise make important business connections.

ConQuesT 48, Kansas City's longest-running science fiction and fantasy convention, will be downtown on Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28. The author guest of honor will be Robert J. Sawyer, the toastmaster will be Jonathan Maberry, the artist guest of honor will be Rachael Mayo, and the fan guest of honor will be Zac Zacarola. Registration is now open.

Also, Johnson County Library will be offering three Meet the Author events in March:

  • Sue Lowell Gallion, local picture book author, at the Corinth Library on Monday morning, March 13;
  • Bob Shea, nationally loved picture book author, at the Central Library on Wednesday morning, March 29; and
  • Jason Reynolds, critically acclaimed young adult and middle grade author, at the Central Library on Thursday evening, March 30.
