Rating: 4

My rating for this book is a 4 because the book is way too detailed at points and can have way too many themes running throughout. I think this diverts the reader from the plot of the novel. I believe this will also confuse readers at some points about what the book is meant to be.

This book appears to be the sequel to the Disney movie Brave. And it is an excellent one. We see Merida come back from a journey, and she realizes that nothing has changed. On Christmas, she meets two gods. One, who goes by the name of Feradach, is the god of ruin, and his next job is to ruin her beloved DunBroch. And the other is the god of renewal, named the Cailleach. Merida makes a bargain to save her family and home. The catch? She has just one year to change her family, or she must submit to Feradach’s ruin.

Nova Artino is a villain, but Adrian Everhart does not know that. In a world where having super powers is common, there is a struggle between the Anarchists and the Renegades in Gatlon City. The beginning of this problem started when Nova was just a child, where people with powers were being persecuted, and her uncle, Ace Anarchy fought alongside others for  their rights to live a normal life. Hugh Everhart began the Renegades during this time too, however he saw that the Anarchist way was hurting too many people, and took down Ace Anarchy.

The final novel in Holly Black’s, The Folk of the Air trilogy, The Queen of Nothing, is fast-paced and unexpected. Jude, the Queen of Faerie, has been exiled, but she must risk everything and return to the Faerie Court to save her sister. Elfhame is different, stuck deep within a brewing war, and crossing over from the mortal world will trap Jude in a world of sensitive politics. The ending of this book felt rushed and somewhat incomplete, but the rest of the novel was fantastic.
