This document describes the Library Board's authority to contract 
for legal services.

CONTRACT FOR 
LEGAL COUNSEL 

a. Pursuant to K.S.A. 12-2223 and K.S.A. 12-1225, the Library 
Board may contract on an annual basis for legal services. The 
legal counsel of the Library Board represents that board, the 
library as an institution, the County Librarian, and the staff of 
the library when so directed by the Library Board.

b. Unless it is inappropriate due to a direct conflict of interest 
between the Library Board and the Board of County 
Commissioners, the legal counsel for the Library Board shall 
work with county staff, including county legal staff, to assure 
that no duplication of work exists with respect to the legal 
interests of the Johnson County Library. 

AUTHORITY TO 
DIRECT 

c. Counsel shall render services at the direction of the chair of 
the Library Board, the Library Board, or the County Librarian.
