Position Summary:

The Web Interface Designer will develop and maintain a dynamic, accessible, highly functional, and aesthetically pleasing CSS-based patron interface for the Johnson County Library and associated Web sites including JoCoLibrary, JoCoHistory, JoCoHealth, JoCoBusiness, JoCoFamily, JoCoTeenScene, JoCoKids, KC Science, INC, and other sites as assigned. The Web Interface Designer will analyze library and partnership Web-based needs and work with colleagues to develop plans for short and long-term site development. Implementation of these plans will include developing dynamic, Flash-based or Web 2.0 interactive Web components to increase functionality of the Web sites. 

As a member of the Web Content Team, the position reports to the Web Content Manager and works with Web Content Developers, Information Technology Staff, other library colleagues, patrons, and community partners to provide access to ideas, information, experiences and materials that support and enrich people’s lives.


Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s degree; 2 or more years Web design experience, including the design and development of Web sites; 1 or more years experience developing, implementing, and analyzing usability studies; 2 or more years experience implementing graphic design in an online environment; 2 or more years experience utilizing CSS, HTML, DOM javascript, and XHTML  to develop accessible, media rich Web sites; 1 or more years experience designing graphic elements for an online environment. Additional qualifications include outstanding interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills, graphic design expertise, and the ability to learn new technologies and to become familiar with code quickly.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Computer Science, User interface design, or Information Technology, Master’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Library science, User interface design, or Information architecture, 1 year library experience, 1 year project planning / management experience, and expertise with Web-related software such as Adobe Premiere and Screencasting software such as Camtasia.
