Volunteering can be a great way to learn new skills, network with potential employers, and contribute meaningfully to your community. If you are looking to start a new career or find yourself between jobs, a volunteer position is something to consider.

VolunteerMatch.org is a non-profit Web site that connects people to available volunteer opportunities in their area. You can search based on location and choose from many categories like Animals, Health, Sports or Hunger.

Two upcoming job fairs on April 7, 2010 will provide locals with the chance to talk to employers who are actively hiring.

The first is the Heart of America Employer Fair at UMKC. Representatives from more than 30 organizations will attend.

New Landings is sponsoring their fourth Career Expo on April 1, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in Overland Park, Kansas.  The purpose of this career fair is to provide job seekers with networking opportunities with recruiters and businesses in Johnson County and the surrounding greater Kansas City area.
