Kick off Johnson County Library's adult reading program, BlitzRead!, at the Central Resource Library on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010; 1:30-4 p.m.

3 p.m.  Max Grinnell, traveler, explorer and writer. He writes for Rough Guide and Frommer's and will share stories about his travel as well as tips for getting the local perspective no matter where you are going. No registration is necessary; everyone is welcome. Learn more about Max Grinnell »

 

Contest

Max Grinnell is very excited to come to Kansas and meet everyone on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010. To celebrate his forthcoming visit, he is sponsoring a writing contest "of sorts". Here are the rules:

  • Max GrinnellYou must use the words "sunflower" and "John Saint John" somewhere in your piece. (Note: The sunflower is the official flower of Kansas and John Saint John was governor of the state from 1879 to 1883 and he practiced law in Olathe.)
  • Keep your ditty/poem/prose piece to 250 words. (Bonus points for creative typography.)
  • Max Grinnell will be the sole judge of all entries and first, second and third prize will be awarded. The prizes will include travel books by the author and one original travel guide by noted food and lodging enthusiast Duncan Hines!
  • All entries should be submitted to the author via e-mail (maxgrinnell@gmail.com) by midnight on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010.
  • The winners will be invited to receive their prize at the BlitzRead! Kick-off. Let the writing begin!
